Fourth of July

The Fourth of July

a day of freedom and independence.

A day when the sun fades and the moon rises,

and the sky comes alive

with booming bursts of color and light.

My love is working today,

but he still made time for me.

He invited me to join him

to go with him to his job,

so we could sneak away

to the rooftop of the building where he works.

Just the two of us,

high above the noise,

watching fireworks paint the night.

Of course, I accepted it.

Looks like we’ll be spending the Fourth of July together after all.
